Calculate a checksum for a file or UTF-8 text, then compare it with a value from a trusted source. A single changed byte produces a different result.
Runs locally in your browser. This tool does not upload your input or save it in browser storage.
Verify a download
- Obtain the expected checksum from the publisher through a trusted channel.
- Select the same algorithm here and choose your downloaded file.
- Calculate, then paste the expected value. A match means the file has the expected digest; it does not independently establish that the publisher or file is safe.
A known test value
Select Text and SHA-256, and enter abc with no newline. The result should be ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad. Capitalization, spaces, and trailing newlines change the bytes and therefore the checksum.
SHA-1 is included for compatibility with older published checksums, not for new security designs. This tool reads an entire file into memory; the 64 MiB cap helps limit memory use on phones. It is not a password storage or encryption tool. See checksum troubleshooting.
